Prayer of
St. Gertrude the Great Free
the Souls in Purgatory:
![]() and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, (for those most abandoned 1), for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the Universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen. Repeat. ![]() Optional: Follow with an Our Father, Hail Mary & Glory Be for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Our Lord showed St. Gertrude a vast number of souls leaving Purgatory and going to Heaven as a result of this prayer, which the Saint was accustomed to say frequently during the day. Taken from the booklet Read Me or Rue It by Fr. Paul O’Sullivan which has the approval of the Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon, Portugal – March 4, 1936. St. Gertrude's life was the mystic life of the Cloister – a Benedictine nun. She meditated on the Passion of Christ, which many times brought a flood of tears to her eyes. She did many penances and Our Lord appeared to her many times. She had a tender love for the Blessed Virgin and was very devoted to the suffering souls in Purgatory. She died in 1334. Her feast day is November 16th. 1 Praying for the most abandoned souls (who have no one to pray for them) will grant you many many prayers of gratitude from these poor souls who cannot pray for themselves. |
