of
Saint Patrick (modified-we)
We arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation.
We arise today
Through the strength of Christ's birth and His baptism,
Through the strength of His crucifixion and His burial,
Through the strength of His resurrection and His ascension,
Through the strength of His descent for the judgment of doom.
We arise today
Through the strength of the love of cherubim,
In obedience of angels in Heaven,
In
service of archangels for God,
In
the hope of resurrection to meet with reward,
In the prayers of patriarchs before Christ,
In
preachings of the apostles to kingdoms,
In
faiths of confessors and priests,
In
innocence of virgins and children,
In
deeds of righteous men and women.
We arise today
Through the strength of heaven above,
by the Light of the sun in the sky,
the
Splendor of fire
and ash,
the
Speed of lightning
from the
clouds,
the
Swiftness of the wind
across the
plains,
the
Depth of the sea
from the
shores,
the
Stability of the earth
around the
sun,
and
the Firmness of the rock in the ground.
We arise today
Through God's strength to pilot us
for ever,
God's might to uphold us
in weakness,
God's
wisdom to guide us in thought,
God's
eye to look before us in darkness,
God's ear to hear us in praise,
God's
word to speak for us in wisdom,
God's hand to guard us
in peril,
God's
way to lie before us by example,
God's
shield to protect us
from evil,
God's
hosts to save us
from
damnation,
From
snares of the devil,
From
temptations of vices,
From
every one who desires us ill,
Afar
and a near,
Alone
or in a multitude.
We
summon today all
these powers between us and evil,
Against every cruel merciless power that opposes our body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom,
Against false laws
of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of women and smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man's body and soul.
Christ shield us today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
Against storms and
floods and all natural disasters
that threaten our lives and safety.
So that reward may come to us in abundance.
Christ with us, Christ before us, Christ behind us.
Christ in us, Christ beneath us, Christ above us.
Christ on our right, Christ on our left,
Christ when we lie down, Christ when we sit down.
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of us.
Christ in the mouth of every man who speaks of us.
Christ in the eye that sees us.
Christ in the ear that hears us.
We arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through a belief in the Threeness,
Through a confession of the Oneness
Of the Creator of creation.
Amen.
